At a U.N.-sponsored global summit that year, developing nations led by China, Iran and Cuba pushed for the U.S. to cede Internet control to the world body. “Putting the U.N. in charge of one of the world’s most important technological wonders and economic engines is out of the question,” Coleman said at the time.

If so, now is the time to ask your questions and voice your concerns. The draft implementation plan for the new gTLD regime is available online for public comment at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ("ICANN") website until December 8. Nominet faces split
When the government talks about "critical national infrastructure", for most of us it brings to mind images of guarded nuclear facilities, choked railways and failing banks. But now, on a business park on the outskirts of Oxford, a keystone of the modern economy is the subject of an increasingly bitter power struggle that could trigger a Whitehall power grab at the independent heart of the UK internet.

Domain Tasting and the Federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA)
Questions have arisen as to whether the U.S. Anti-cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA) applies to "domainers" (individuals or entities who engage in the business of buying and selling domain name names) in general, or to "domain tasting" specifically. In addition, it has been unclear whether the liability provisions of the statute would apply to registrars. A California Federal court indicated that the ACPA applies to "domain tasting,” in a 2008-decision granting an injunction to Verizon California.

Vietnam to soon employ IPv6: Deputy Minister

Agencies eventually will use IPv6 addresses for their network nodes, especially now that they have met the Office of Management and Budget’s deadline for enabling network backbones for IPv6. And with all those bits to work with — 128 bits to be precise — an IPv6 address can be used for more than just letting routers know where to send packets.

After Late Start Rick Rolls Through Full Auction List
Technical difficulties continued to plague the auctions in Australia this evening (afternoon in Australia). Rick Latona’s auction experienced similar audio/video issues that Aftermarket.com experienced earlier in the day at their TRAFFIC Down Under auction. When the audio and video feed came in, it was quite clear Latona was agitated by the over 1 hour delay. He was heard saying before the event “Let’s go. We’ve got business to do.” He managed to knock out the list of 69 names in around 1 hour and 15 minutes.
